The Real Cost of Convenience Food
Jun 08, 2026
Life is busy.
Between work, school pickups, sports practices, homework and everything else that fills our days, it's no surprise that convenience food has become a regular part of many households.
The promise is appealing: less time cooking, less stress and dinner on the table faster.
But convenience can sometimes come with hidden trade-offs.
When Convenience Comes at a Cost
Many convenience foods are designed to maximise shelf life, minimise manufacturing costs and deliver consistency at scale.
To achieve this, ingredient lists can become surprisingly long.
Added flavours, colours, preservatives, fillers and ingredients you wouldn't normally find in your kitchen often become part of the recipe.
That's not true of every convenience product, but it has become common enough that many shoppers have learned to turn the packet over before deciding what goes into their trolley.
For parents trying to feed their families well, that can create a frustrating choice between convenience and nutrition.
Why We Started Asking a Different Question
When we created Vince, we weren't trying to make another convenience food.
We were trying to solve a different problem.
How do you make it easier for families to eat more vegetables without adding more work to their day?
As a chef and a mum, I knew that most people wanted to eat more vegetables. The challenge wasn't motivation. It was time, energy and practicality.
That's where Vince began.
Convenience Should Work For You
Our philosophy has always been simple.
Convenience should remove effort, not remove the goodness.
That's why Vince starts with vegetables.
We slowly dehydrate vegetables such as tomatoes, cauliflower, onion, carrot and celery, creating a flavour-packed base that can be stored in the pantry and prepared in minutes.
Rather than relying on artificial flavours to create taste, we focus on building flavour from the ingredients themselves.
The result is a product that makes it easier to get vegetables into everyday meals without spending hours in the kitchen.
Real Ingredients. Less Fuss.
We're not suggesting every convenience food is bad.
Life is busy and sometimes convenience is exactly what we need.
We simply believe that convenience and real food should be able to exist together.
When you're choosing products for your pantry, it's worth taking a moment to look beyond the front of the packet and see what's inside.
Because convenience shouldn't come at the cost of good food.
It should help make good food easier.
At Vince, that's exactly what we're working towards.
